The rumors are true! After a little extra time in the oven to make sure everything is perfect, WordPress 7.0 is set to arrive on May 20th, 2026.
We know version numbers can sound a bit “techy,” but 7.0 is all about making your life easier, whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned pro. Here is the “Edit” on the best new features heading your way.
1. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Ever tried to edit a post only to find someone else is already in there? WordPress 7.0 introduces Real-Time Collaboration. This means teams can finally work together in the editor at the same time. No more “Post Locked” warnings – just smooth, shared creating that makes finishing a post feel much more collaborative.
2. AI Joins the Core Team
WordPress is getting AI built-in! AI is being added to the core software to help with things like writing image descriptions (great for SEO!) and helping you brainstorm ideas.
The Best Part: Once you set up your AI preferences in the settings, your favourite plugins and themes can use those same settings. Expect plenty of updates from your favourite developers as they “plug in” to this new core power!

We’re talking about better mobile menus, more responsive controls so your site looks great on phones, and simpler layouts. It’s not a total reinvention, but it makes the tools you already use feel much more polished.
5. Simple & Clear Post Revisions
Ever made a mistake and needed to “go back in time” to an older version of your post? The Revisions screen has been simplified into a single-column view. It’s much less confusing than the old way and makes it crystal clear exactly what changed and when.
6. New Blocks: Breadcrumbs & Icons
No more hunting for extra plugins just to add a simple icon or a “Home > Blog” breadcrumb trail. WordPress 7.0 adds these as Core Blocks. They are lightweight, fast, and easy to style to match your brand perfectly.
